|
The
13th annual Gathering of the Clans Motorcycle Rally was hosted by High
Country Motorcycle Camp on June 9-11, 2006. The approximately 165 Rally
participants enjoyed 3 excellent days of weather in the mountains. New
owner “Buzzard Brent” had the place in top shape for the weekend.
Saturday featured an Air Head Tech session in the Pavilion. Brad Shupe showed several eager riders how to adjust their valves. Legendary BMW mechanic and enthusiast Bob Reel was seen helping several owners sort out problems with their bikes. Many found Saturday a great day to ride the twisty roads near the campground. Bob Beech led a group over to the Abington Va. area while another group rode up to nearby Boone. Three minor mishaps were reported during the Rally. The most serious occured when young Jonas Shawanesse low sided on a sharp curve only 5 miles from the campground. Jonas said he just ran out of road. The beautiful Triumph Triple he was riding flipped and needed a truck to bring it back to the campground. Jonas ended up with a big raspberry on his leg; however he should be back riding as soon as he gets his motorcycle repaired. Saturday evening featured prize drawings under the pavilion after dinner. Charley Smith thanked everyone for coming to the Rally and encouraged them to come back next year. New owner “Buzzard Brent” was introduced and the evening ended with a local group called “Stony Fork Band” playing Irish country music. Pictures by R Jarrell |
